I took my Lilac Girls momentum and swung right into this bad boy. This was one of my first purchases from Book of the Month (which I am now addicted to, thank you Camille).

I did love this book. It’s another WWII historical fiction with female main characters. This story follows two sisters, Vianne and her younger sister Isabelle. It dives right into the action and allows the reader to see their roles as women throughout the war. Early in the story, Vianne’s husband is called to war and the remainder of the story is how she must trudge on as normal both as a mother, school teacher, and friend. I don’t want to give too much away, but I am not going to lie, I was REALLY REALLY into her romance storyline…ok that’s all there. Isabelle is a bit more rebellious and wants to hold her own throughout. She’s only 18 when the story begins and you can tell she is still trying to figure herself out throughout the novel. (This is super random but, for SOME STRANGE REASON, Isabelle’s love interest in the book looks like Hector Rivera from Coco.)

Mini-spoiler, I have an extreme dislike for authors who just kill off people after allowing people like myself to get attached to them….!!!!!!! Rude!

I say READ IT. It’s a big book but it sucks you in and you won’t want to put it down.
